Cry now: La Promesa Bakery

La Promesa Bakery

La Promesa Bakery

They had the best flan pie and chocolate-custard cake. They were baked fresh on the premises. By a lovely woman. I bought whole ones as well as batches regularly and and ate them in one sitting. They sometimes wouldn’t even make it home because I ate them in the car. They. Were. Insane!!!

Tomorrow is when they close their doors to the public. Permanently. But…

The lovely woman will keep baking my pie and cake. And bread. And goodies. And pupusas. Anytime. Keep this number handy because you will not find it anywhere. Nowhere. Ever.

Popsicle time: King of Pops

I ate 10 popsicles in one day within a three-hour period. Yes, believe it. 10. That’s after eating a huge dinner for lunch — you know, ordering from the dinner menu (that includes 7 dishes for 2 people) — a lobster roll, a cheeseburger taco, 2 of FB‘s egg rolls, a whole corn, a huge piece of bbq chicken, and a bite of JW‘s hotdog. So all that, plus the popsicles, and another full dinner afterward. Yeah, that’s how I roll. But back to my popsicles…

King of Pops

Honeydew-lime, Banana-cinnamon, Chocolate-sea salt, Tangerine-basil, and Blood orange at 3PM.

And then again.

King of Pops

Grapefruit-mint, Strawberry-margarita, Honeydew-lime, Blood orange at 6PM. But THE absolute best was my special Cantaloupe-basil which made me go weak at the knees. Swoon. No, make that double swoon.

Thanks, Steven, for bringing a cantaloupe-basil for me at the street fest. You’re the best!

Drop everything. Go where the pop king is and grab all the popsicle flavors he has. You can thank me later.

Pick up a pizza now: The Kind Pie

The Kind Pie

…because the gluten-free dough gives you a chewy yet airy crust; and the toppings are fresh and tasty.

Two more reasons to visit: pasta and sandwiches.

The Kind Pie

The Cool Hand Luke — because Luke is a Jedi and I’m the biggest (original) Star Wars fan on the planet Earth the combination of red and white sauce, gravy, and meatballs gives this pasta the ability to perform Jedi mind tricks loads of character and flavor.

The Kind Pie

The Foodie Buddha — because this sandwich doesn’t have a name yet. And FB is its biggest fan. And the tender oxtail filling is out of this world.

The Kind Pie The Kind Pie

Bonuses: Panghani Cookies (kinda like a hazelnut-flavored soft biscotti) and Gougéres.

Grab a cheesesteak: Roy’s

Roy's

…because it’s very good. The softest bun, tasty steak, gooey cheese. Go ahead, get a large one. Because the small is too small… and I scarfed this down in front of FB and @FF who both shared a small one after eating a big lunch :)

Fave burger: Bocado

Bocado

This is my current favorite burger: buttery, soft bun, tender, juicy, tasty patties, gooey cheese — *swoon*. Paired with perfect fries.

Bocado

This roasted poblano-bacon-fried green tomatoes-pimiento cheese sandwich is a great contender. And the accompanying tomato bisque is fantastic. Go ahead, dip your sandwich in it. Thank me later.

P.S. You know you have absolutely the worst server in the state of Georgia when you have to constantly ask other servers to find yours and then close-out your own check. Lame. And to think she only has one other table in a restaurant that’s 30% full. Yes, bad server, you know who you are. We will remember you. Always.
