Badayori Sushi Buffet

Back in 2003, Minado opened its first southern location in Sandy Springs and became an instant hit. A year later, the Korean owners wanted to expand but their franchise wouldn’t allow them to do so. Long story short, they had to buy out their franchise and re-name the restaurant to Badayori. Not long after, they opened branches in downtown (Peachtree Center) and in Duluth (Pleasant Hill Rd). The Duluth location closed a few months ago.

My parents have been friends with the owners since their restaurant opened in Atlanta. They even had talks about partnering together but with the Duluth location’s closing, the idea died down. My mom just called me a few hours ago to tell me that our family friend, the owner, died suddenly of a heart attack. He was 56 years old. He was a very personable man. And a great businessman. He leaves a wife (who manages the Sandy Springs location) and a teenaged daughter. We would like to express our deepest condolences to his family.

It appears that all locations of Badayori are closed. The website is inactive, and the phone numbers are temporarily disconnected. I have an unused gift certificate for this restaurant. Does anyone know how I could contact the owners to find out the appropriate steps to get a refund? Thank you in advance.

Actually Badayori is open in Alpharetta, right behind the Cingular (now ATT) buildings - from 400NB, go west on Windward. Turn Left at the Kinkos and keep straight, past the office buildings, around the bend to the Right, and the restaurant will be on the right hand side. I hear the location in Sandy Springs is still open as well.

I’d rather pay a little more and get quality.

Old Badayori’s out of business because all bad sushi even though service and atmosphere were ok. New Alpharetta location will probably close soon for same reason. They try fill you & get you out. Low variety and sushi not fresh. Only few pieces each sushi out for ENTIRE restuarant, so you limited or give up after wait. (See youtube!) “Compressed rice ball with tiny fish” is old trick. I only seen Korean-owned sushi bars do this, not real sushi bars so maybe it is their cultural taste preference. REAL sushi has medium riceball (not 1 cup of rice compressed into almost like dough ball). REAL sushi is completely covered (not topped like small hat) with medium (not seethru) sashimi. Their gunkanmaki filled with compressed rice hidden by THIN filling layer. Nonsushi food is ok but then just go to cheap China buffet or Golden Corral.

Seriously, Bob Smith? I’ll believe you’re Bob Smith when your grammar is correct and not typical of Asian immigrants. I think you’re more like Tao Wang, rival restaurant owner. I’ve been to the Badayori in Alpharetta and I find it pretty high quality for a sushi buffet. I’ve had little or no time waiting and the selection is pretty large. They serve in small quantaties to make sure each roll is fresh. None of what Bob Smith said is true of this Badayori so ignore his comments
