Burger, Burger, Burger

I’m jumping on the burger bandwagon. By eating them, that is. We all know the sudden craze that swept Atlanta recently. Burger battles abound and every single one of us has favorites. Mine? I have three.

Holeman & Finch

If you have never had the Holeman & Finch‘s elusive burger, then… You. Have. Not. Lived. H+F’s burgers, available only beginning at 10PM (now also during brunch on Sundays) are house-ground and handmade. Only 24 are available each night. Some say it’s the rarity that makes them good. But I have to disagree. I have eaten these burgers so many times I deserve to own stock in the restaurant. The patties are perfect: a blend of high quality meats, juicy, tasty, well seasoned, great texture. Pair these with their buttery buns, homemade ketchup and mustard and you have not tasted a better burger. Seriously. Want your hands on one of these? Get there early. Or… get your bestie to get there early regularly and reserve one for you. Like me. Easy!

Bocado

Two words. Bocado Burger. Available everyday. Any time. Bocado’s burgers are top notch and have a cult following of its own. They come with two glorious patties that are tender, juicy, tasty. Gooey cheese and buttery buns complete the picture. Believe me when I say they are crazy good. My good friends Beth (a true Bocado burger fanatic) and Jen can attest to it.

Miller Union burger

There is no surprise that Esquire’s Best Restaurant of 2010 would put out an amazing burger. Miller Union’s take starts with thick handmade patties that are so flavorful and juicy. It’s got good cheese, crisp greens, all on a thick buttery, sesame seed bun. Every time you sink your teeth in, you’re gonna say, wow, this is good. But don’t take my word for it. Go.

There are so many places to get good burgers in Atlanta and an exhaustive list would be impossible to include. I am an equal opportunity burger eater and I’ve eaten a fair share of them — from Houston’s (a childhood favorite) to Neiman Marcus Cafe, Flip, Muss & Turner, Grindhouse to Krystals, and many more. I named my current top three. What are yours?

Trusty backup: Houston’s

Houston's

Houston's

Houston's

We grew up eating here and it’s been our regular back-up plan when nothing else appeals. The steaks are always cooked perfectly. The roasted chicken is delicious. The salads (I’ve heard) are fantastic. But there’s one best kept secret here: the burgers. They’re phenomenal. Go now.

Get on it: Farm Burger

Farm Burger

So… you guys miss me yet? I’ll be back in town soon. For now, here’s something to check out if you haven’t already: the Chloe Burger. Ok, I made that up. It’s not on the menu although I honestly think it should be. It’s the $6 burger with jalapeños, lettuce, tomato, smoked paprika mayo, pepper jack cheese, and a fried egg. Sounds sloppy? It is. And you’re gonna need tons of paper towels to eat it. Is it good? Let me just say a couple of shakes of salt on the burger would have made me swoon. Because, you see, no amount of topping on a blandish burger can compensate. Just saying.

Oh, and get the homemade potato chips with dip on the side. Put them in your burger for crunch. Not a fan of crunch? Then get the sweet potato fries. You can thank me later.

Fave burger: Bocado

Bocado

This is my current favorite burger: buttery, soft bun, tender, juicy, tasty patties, gooey cheese — *swoon*. Paired with perfect fries.

Bocado

This roasted poblano-bacon-fried green tomatoes-pimiento cheese sandwich is a great contender. And the accompanying tomato bisque is fantastic. Go ahead, dip your sandwich in it. Thank me later.

P.S. You know you have absolutely the worst server in the state of Georgia when you have to constantly ask other servers to find yours and then close-out your own check. Lame. And to think she only has one other table in a restaurant that’s 30% full. Yes, bad server, you know who you are. We will remember you. Always.

Best spicyish burger: Grindhouse Killer Burgers

Grindhouse Killer Burgers

The best burger with a kick is the Apache burger and you can only find it here. The patty is juicy and tasty. Joined in a pillow-soft bun by spicy friends: house roasted green chiles, grilled onions, and pepper jack cheese. It’s not really spicy but there’s a considerable heat to it. Happy burger.

Grindhouse Killer Burgers

All the other burgers are good, too. Except for the turkey burgers which tasted like steamed fake meat (sorry, @tonetoatlanta). Meh. Fries are good. Onion rings have too much batter. Sweet potato kettle chips are good.
