Lookie: Fresh Duck Eggs
Have you tasted fresh duck eggs? I love them. People say duck eggs taste identical to chicken eggs but I don’t think so. They’re more eggy, richer, and just taste better. They’re also bigger. My mom fed us mostly fresh duck eggs (and quail eggs for snack) growing up. She gets these fresh duck eggs regularly from a friend who has a farm outside Atlanta and raises ducks (for personal consumption). While fresh duck eggs command upwards of $12 per dozen (I’ve even seen them sold for $54 online), mom gets her supply every Sunday for — get this — $5 per two dozens!!! Sometimes, when they have so much like this past Sunday, she pays $5 for four dozens. She used a dozen to make duck egg salad with homemade mayo, salt and pepper. Major yum on toasted sourdough bread. I took home two dozens. As usual. Oh, and, they come in these cut-up gallon milk jugs. Genius.
