Good carbs: Hong Kong Bakery

Bread is one of the greatest inventions ever because it’s made with good carbs. Good carbs give you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Bread makes me happy. Bread with butter and custard makes me ecstatic. Where to get both? Hong Kong Bakery. Everything is made fresh in the premises. Just like the bakeries all over China and Hong Kong.

These are my happy pills: bread filled with custard, with taro, with barbecue pork, with pineapple custard, with mocha, with butter. Nothing is over $1.25. Cash only. Go, get happy now.
P.S. They have nian gao!!! I love New Year because we always got Chinese New Year cakes from family friends. When we were young, my mom pan-fried the sticky slices to make jiān nián gāo — crispy on the outside, sticky/chewy on the inside. No need to wait for New Year!

You have just made me *such* a happy girl. The custard bun that you show in the picture is my husband’s FAVORITE thing. In the Netherlands, where he is from, it is called a puding bodje and we have never found one here. I am *so* looking forward to taking him there and, hopefully, getting him one of his favorite treats!
Thanks again!
Helen
