Imane Moroccan Restaurant (Duluth)
I really wanted to like this place. The inside is just so charming with wall-to-wall Persian rugs, a hookah lounge, and authentic decor complete with what looks like hand-tooled Moroccan dining tables and chairs. Even the dinnerware is authentic. And they have live entertainment on weekend nights. I love how they make you feel like family on your first visit. Everyone is so attentive and hospitable — from the owners to the servers.
The best part of dining here is the tea service. You must, must get the Moroccan mint tea. Tea is poured from a beautiful Moroccan silver teapot served on an equally beautiful tray. A medium serving that equals to about 12 ounces will set you back $5 but it is worth every penny. The tea is steaming hot, minty, and sweetened with honey.

Harira soup: hearty, spicy, but under-salted

Chicken Tagine: flavorless meat but the saffron-based sauce became alive with a great bit of harissa

Beef Brouchette: skewered pieces of bland beef but the couscous and shlada are both decent
Unfortunately, the food is not all that good. While the ingredients used are all top-notch and portion sizes are big, everything tastes bland. It is really baffling considering Moroccan food is known for bold flavors due to the limitless assortment of spices used in the cuisine. Everything here tastes flat — the soup, the sauces, the tagines, the meat skewers. And no amount of salt or harissa can seem to help improve the flavors. I came back a third time and still the same. They started a lunch buffet this week so I was able to taste a lot more dishes today. Still the same — bland. Sad.
Insider tip:
Weekday lunch buffet.
Sunday breakfast buffet.
Live entertainment including belly dancers on weekend nights.

This place looks awesome. It’s a shame the food is bland. I think I would still try it, though, maybe for the mint tea. That sounds great!
2 Chloe // Dec 17, 2009 at 11:34 am
Jaimes — it’s worth trying out. The lunch buffet at $12 is a great deal. It’s quite pricey during dinner.

Chloe,
I feel for you. I have at least three restaurants (two pizza, one Persian) that I haven’t talked about because I wanted them to be good or great and the food turned out to be very ordinary. I’m sorry for your experience but it happens.
FnS.
PS – How many cuisines with vibrant spicing get dumbed down in the representations in this city? I’ve yet to find a Malaysian restaurant in the ATL whose spicing approached the levels ordinary Malays eat..

You are so right, FNS!

I was inquiring about this place the other night on Twitter, wondering if anyone had tried it yet. I live about five minutes away and was thinking of checking it out this weekend. Sad to hear that the food was disappointing. I was looking at their dinner menu online-way too much to spend for bland food. I might still give the buffet a try since it’s reasonably priced.
6 Chloe // Dec 17, 2009 at 10:47 pm
Give them a try, Tina. The lunch buffet is a good deal and will allow you to sample many dishes including the chicken tagine. I heard there’s a cover charge on Fri/Sat nights due to the live entertainment (band and belly dancers) which will up the price of your dinner even more.

That’s a damn shame, b/c the place looks awesome.

This Restaurant is awesome. I am married to a moroccan woman and we go there often because this restaurant serves best moroccan food in town. the prices are affordable and the service is quick. check it out and see for yourself. Because some the comments were not fair.

hmm…have been there a couple times..the food is not that great, considering I have been to other Moroccan restaurants before. I agree the place is gorgeous and I could tell a lot of money has been spent on the details but I just wish they had paid the same kinda attention to the food and the tastes.

Imane’s is absolutely wonderful. We have now gone there 3 different times and we think the food and the atmosphere are wonderful. Don’t listen to this negative review. I was there last night on Christmas Eve with a group of 35 Jewish people and everyone had a great time and absolutely loved the food. I was also recently there for my birthday and it beats anywhere for a great celebration. So go check it out if you want delicious food, friendly staff and great entertainment.

My mom actually just had dinner there tonight.. Although we are not moroccans, but we lived in Morocco for four years. My mom is very difficult person to appease, in terms of food taste, and let me tell you she did not stop talking about the place since she came back from dinner with some friends.. I am amazed at the earlier comments of some people. Mom loved the decor and the food was delicious!

They obviously spent all their money on the furnishings and the website. I tried the lunch buffet. I am still asleep from the bland food. I did not know Moroccan = BLAND. Perhaps I should have drunk heavily before trying Imane. Maybe the food would have tasted better. Very disappointing. In addition, the service was slow. I guess that is because of all the customers they had – all 6!!!!! I would hate to see the service when they are busy.

I was so disappointed. The decor is beautiful but the food is total crap. Our waiter had the worst body odor you can imagine. And they charged us 35 bucks a plate for the below mediocre dinner buffet.

food is terrible. prolly the most terrible middle east restuarant i have ever been to and i am from the middle east.

I went to this restaurant this past Friday with friends…the service was great. However we waited a long time for the food because the cook had burned our food, however the waiter & manager were really good with trying to keep us happy..They gave us mixed olives and warm bread, as well as did not charge us for one of the meals and even gave us free dessert…Over all it was not that bad and the music & belly dancer was fabulous..I enjoyed myself and would definitely go again for music & Hookah…I give them a 10 for Hospitality and a 5 for food needs more flavor…

when i heard about a moroccan restaurant is opening i was so happy and i told everybody that i know about it ,but when i went there i was so disappointed,i ordered the sampler ,it was very small portion and all burned and it had no taste .the waiter was from egypt and had no clue about moroccan food . i agree with bouchra ,they should spend more money on a good chef.sorry i’m not coming back and i’m not sending any of my friends there because i don’t want them to be disappointed like me.

A lot of people think the food is bland, But it is not,I was with a group of French people , they loved the food since the french know well the Moroccan taste ( not Indian or Pakistani food).
Those attacks look like enemies to the restaurant
Most of comments are not true.
We came in about four times different days and I don’t think there is something if so I won’t spend my money again.
I still enjoy the food and music.

Guys– you are all entitled to your own opinion. Please, if you start attacking other commenters, I will ban you from my site. I have already done it to two. Just saying.

I think everybody should give it a try. The food is very affordable compared to other moroccan restaurants. I went with a group of friends and everybody enjoyed the food. I had the chance to go visit the kitchen and all the prep was purely moroccan, i can tell, i’m from morocco. As for the cover charge, i think its fair; the belly dancer and the band were both amazing. You should be aware before dinning that the food is moroccan and not middle eastern, there is a big difference, moroccan food is better
Once again give it a try and you’ll love it. good job Imane and good luck for the future
20 Chloe // Jan 18, 2010 at 6:27 pm
Ok, I’ve had to ban another person. You guys better play nice.
Chloe.
21 Chloe // Jan 19, 2010 at 3:51 pm
Adaas– you were thisclose to having your comment deleted. Unfortunately, you were very eloquent so I’ll let you slide this time.
[On a side note: I am not expecting Moroccan food to be spicy. I have had many authentic Moroccan meals specifically in France (where the largest concentration of Moroccan immigrants exist) and around Europe. I find the food at Imane bland and tasteless compared to what I have been accustomed to.]
If you guys don’t stop attacking each other, I WILL BE FORCED TO SHUT DOWN THE COMMENTS SECTION of this post. So once again, NO PERSONAL ATTACKS and PLAY NICE!!!
Chloe

Imane Moroccan Restaurant is the most decorated restaurant I have ever seen, even in Morocco there’s no restaurant as BEAUTIFUL as IMANE, it is such a gorgeous place, and I’m glad it opened, I have been going recently with different groups of people, absolutely great Moroccan food, from appetizers to deserts, the Tagines are so delicious I always want to eat my fingers after i have one because of how yummy it is, I feel as if I’m in Morocco, that’s the main reason why I keep coming back because of the great food Imane provides, even though I live miles away, the tasteful and flavorful food makes it worth it
I was lucky enough to meet Imane herself, she is such a sweet and a beautiful young lady, very nice and friendly. the atmosphere at Imane is always amazing, great band and belly dancers, it really makes me feel in Morocco because we don’t have much of that here in Atlanta, i would recommend this restaurant to everyone that wants to have a great time, great food, also great flavored hookahs. I always have a blast and the most amazing time. good luck to you Imane

32 Dining Universe // Feb 18, 2010 at 3:57 pm
The food was pretty good, not outstanding. The tilapia was the only item on the buffet that had a decent amount of flavor, probably because it is thin, allowing the flavor to soak in. The chicken was done well, but not not with the level of flavor I was hoping for. The vegetables were all bland, so vegetarians might find it on the whole not very appetizing. The bread was cold and dry – they should find a better way of presenting it so that it stays warm. The hot tea was intriguing – a different flavor from what most people are used to. They add honey to the ginger, so it’s better drunk with your dessert. I think the sweetness of the tea ruined some of the flavor of my meal. They had a tv playing regional music – looked like a Los Angeles cable station, so it wasn’t strictly Moroccan, rather most of it was popular night club music. The decoration of the place is outstanding, and a bonus goes to them for using more interesting seating rather than the high tables Americans are used to, which helps the atmosphere. I am under the impression the owner, or one of them at least, is actually from Germany.

I ate here last night and the whole experience was amazing. The service was great, the people were amazingly friendly, and the food was excellent. We had a wonderful appetizer accompanied by a nice bottle of wine, three courses of different entrees, two separate desserts, and topped the meal off with hookah and Moroccan tea. Each item we had was so unique and had it’s own incredible flavor. This dining experience is great: the atmosphere, the food, and the people make it a definite repeat for me.

This place is excellent! I love trying different styles of food and this one was my first Moroccan experience and I give it an A+! FULL OF TASTE – (I am not sure what kind of super taste buds the person has who says the food is not tasty) We went on a slow night (tuesday) and Imane herself was our server. I was very impressed with the passion she had for her culture, as well as her food and the hospitality. The atmosphere was filled with all Moroccan items – except for the Plasma TV on the wall that played Moroccan music. The Tea and Hooka is a MUST do at the end of the dining experience. The prices are lower than average for an upscale restaurant- 3 of us split an appetizer, bottle of wine, 3 entrees, desert, tea, and hooka, all for only $40 a person. I recommend the Casablanca Mrozia Tagine as an entree. I will definitely be going back.

This is one of the best Moroccan restaurant that i visited so far. The food was out of this world, great service and the place looks like one of those old houses in Fes.
Thank you .

This is like no other restaurant I have ever seen!
It’s a trip to Morocco. I know that some people
think the food is to too bland, but we Americans
eat too much salt which is unhealthy. This place
makes healthful food.

It was a Monday when I was interested
to read some of these reviews about this restaurant. So my daughter and
I decided to check this website out, my daughter HERSELF was reading
the reviews for me and she is 12 years old, all of the sudden when she
got to the last review she stopped reading and she said “Mom I cant read
this post it has bad words” so I myself finished reading the post and I
was very shocked and concerned that the person that is in charge of
this website let this kind of post be posted for other people to read
it. Fortunately this review did not stop me for going to Imane, so my
family and I went and had dinner there the next day, I was very
disappointed of how some people can lie and make things up, it’s very
obvious that ” LEBRON ” is an enemy to this place, because when we went
there everything was GREAT even the service, very good food, good
service, and a beautiful place, what more can you ask for?? My husband
and I actually check their health inspection score and they had a 100!
My concern is to the person who is in charge of these posts, how can you
let a post like this be out there? I don’t want my kids or someone
Else’s kids to read posts with “F words” in them.

I am french but my father is from morocco. I moved in the US about 1 year and a half ago, and I was dreaming for moroccan food since then! I missed to eat couscous and tajines! My boyfriend is an american and didn’t know anything about this food. So I convinced him to go try IMANE on a sunday for lunch.
When we got in, we’ve been amazed by the decor, it is really beautiful. The waitress was really friendly. We were the only people there so got a lot of attention. the mint tea is awsome. We got a chicken tajine and chicken couscous. That was pretty good. I ate better in France (specially from my dad) but it was good and had a really good time. My boyfriend really liked it too, and he is pretty picky about food. We want to go back an evening to get the band and dancer experience.

The place is amazing and its a gate to Moroccan culture and living atmosphere, i went there twice, one during the Fasting month (Ramadan) for the break fasting and few weeks ago. the service was okay. i had to wait for the host for like 10 min,, the server sat there at the door and kept looking at me.. i was about to leave. but the owner ( Iman) she apologized. the food is okay since i am Moroccan and i know how my own food taste, and i cook better than they do.. i just don`t know why it doesn`t taste the same. other than that everything else is great.. the last time i went there the belly dancer was pregnant which was kinda creepy to see a pregnant woman dancing,, ( the baby bouncing inside her belly. i don`t know i just dont find that a good thing. it worth a visit,, if you want good food then contact me, i will be more than happy to cook for anyone

I have read all the BAD comments that trashed Iman. I have also read the good comments about iman. I am going for lunch tomorrow (2/25/11). If you don’t try it you will never know. I have been to 6 continents and have enjoyed 90% of what I have tried. I have never had Morrocan food. I will get back to everyone.

We had our friend’s Birthday party at this place, and we were extremely disappointed. The food was terrible, service was slow, and the management was rude. They forced us to buy an Entree even though most people had already ordered appetizers, drinks, and hookah. But they still forced everyone to buy an entree or they would automatically add a $10 cover fee to the bill. And when we tried to talk to the manager, she was very rude, even though we had no prior agreement about such deal with her. In addition, the food was horrible, I ordered the server’s favorite dish, which was lamb shank, and it seemed like it was heated on the microwave, too salty, and tasteless. Everyone else had also the same experience with their food. The music was horrific, We asked the DJ to play the birthday song, and he kept on turning the music up and down while we were taking the cake to the birthday girl, and it was really not nice. In conclusion, I do not think this place needs to be in business, and I do not suggest anyone to ever try this place.
