Trusty backup: Houston’s

We grew up eating here and it’s been our regular back-up plan when nothing else appeals. The steaks are always cooked perfectly. The roasted chicken is delicious. The salads (I’ve heard) are fantastic. But there’s one best kept secret here: the burgers. They’re phenomenal. Go now.

Ha! For the same reasons we ended up there the other night, except at the West Paces Ferry location — also noticed (it being my first visit in years) that they now accept reservations. I inquired and apparently they offer it at all locations excepting Lenox.
I know reservations are kinda the antitheses of “backups” but hey, for a place with a notorious and everlasting wait, good info to pass around!

Funny you should write about Houston’s as a backup. Three of us went to the Peachtree Road Houston’s last month . Totally a backup plan. We were headed to Cafe Sunflower where they happened to have a live jazz band on a Thursday night and it was way too loud to have a conversation. So we walked uphill to Houston’s and had a terrific meal.

This became the default first-night together restaurant for my wife and I when we were doing the long distance thing. I think the burgers are overrated but the double cut pork chop is amazing.
